The Story

Bobby’s story

Coffee changed the way I showed up for my life.

It started with a morning mocha, a wee De’Longhi and the decision to change the way I was living. Everything that came after grew from coffee, connection and opening the door.

Before the beans.

A couple of years ago, I realised I couldn’t keep living the way I’d been living. I needed to make some changes.

I went off work sick and contacted the NHS to start my therapy journey. One of the things I knew I’d miss most while I wasn’t working was my morning mocha from my favourite coffee spot. It had become part of my daily routine. I’d have been late for work before I’d have missed it. 😂

So I bought the cheapest coffee machine I could find, a little De’Longhi, and taught myself how to make coffee from YouTube. After about a year of making coffee for myself in the hoose, I started getting asked to do charity pop ups. I’d hook the wee machine up to a generator and serve coffees in exchange for donations.

Then I opened the shed.

In September, I invited folk down for a free coffee and a chat.

Truth be told, I mostly did it to get myself off the couch and speaking to people while I waited for therapy to begin. I’d got into the habit of sitting on my own, and I knew that wasn’t doing me any good.

After six months in the shed, I did a pop up at the Barras Market. It was a massive success. It has since closed, but it was an incredible experience and I learned a lot about business.

When that came to an end, I found myself at a bit of a loose end. Then Dockyard Social put up a post looking for someone to make some banging coffees, and about 100 of you tagged me. 😂

Now you’ll find me there every Saturday and Sunday serving up beautiful brews. Just say my name at the door and your entry is on me.

What the business is really for.

Bobby’s Beans is my attempt to clear the £20,000 plus of debt I built up while I was struggling to keep my head above water.

There was a time in my life when I genuinely thought making it to 40 would be enough. That was before therapy.

I completed 18 sessions over eight months, and they changed my life. I still wake up and battle my demons every day, but now, most days, I’m winning. Once I started challenging the negative thought patterns I’d been trapped in for years, everything began to change.

Every bag is part of that journey towards freedom. It helps me face the debt honestly, keep building something meaningful and prove to myself that change is possible.

Chosen by me, for you.

I’m incredibly proud to bring these coffees to you.

This is proper speciality coffee, roasted with care and precision, and hand picked by me for you. I hope you enjoy drinking every one as much as I enjoyed choosing and testing it.

The names might make you laugh, but the coffee itself is taken seriously. I taste it, choose it and work with people I trust to have it roasted fresh.

Thank you.

Thank you for the support you’ve shown me. It genuinely means the world. Without you, none of this would have happened.

The shed, the Barras, Dockyard Social and now Bobby’s Beans have all been made possible because of you. It is an honour and a privilege to be welcomed into your lives every single day.

Love always,
Bobby x
